Yudu Screen Printing

YuduMy neighbor is heavily involved in her son Billy’s PTA and soccer team and always asks for my help with certain projects. Most of it is cooking, we drink some wine and have a great old time. This past weekend she needed me to help her make 100 caps for every kid on the team as well as all of the parents and relatives. Boy I thought it was going to be tedious but indeed I was wrong.

She ordered something called the Yudu which to me looked like a over-sized scanner but that was before I realized exactly what it does. They advertise it as an all in 1 table top screen printing machine. The Yudu works in 3 easy steps.

1 – Create your image on the Yudu transparencies

2 – Expose the image inside of the Yudu

3 – Pull the ink

Sounds simple right?  Well I will be the first to say that while it is simple to use, you really need to be patient when you use it. We messed up our first emulsion sheet because we didn’t follow the instructions. We thought that it would take us the entire weekend to make all of the caps so it was a stupid mistake. Once we were able to sit down, have some wine and watch the how to DVD it all made sense.

Anyway, we used the YUDU for about 6 hours and was able to make all of the hats that we needed. Only 4 or 5 of them got screwed up (too much wine) and we completed the job. Everything we needed was included and if you run out of something all you need to do is go to your nearest Jo-Ann Fabric Store to get some more. We needed to get more ink because the YUDU came with several different colors but we did all of our colors in blue so we ran out fast.

Since I was able to help make all of these hats I decided to do some research on the YUDU and buy my own. What I did not know is that this doesn’t only work on fabric, but you can use it on metal, glass, paper, plastic wood AND vinyl.

It comes with a quick start user guide and a how to DVD. (that we didn’t watch at first). Also included 3 transparencies,  3 emulsion sheets, 110 mesh screen, emulsion remover which is what we needed to use the same screen 100 times (works great), the Yudu squeegee to pull the ink and 6 bottles of non toxic, eco friendly, washable, professional grade ink.

And when I thought that was all I see that the free bonuses included are a designer kit with a cd-rom that contains hundreds of images you can use with the Yudu, a pre-exposed screen so you can practice pulling, a Yudu mixing color set, mixing guide, assorted blank cards and envelopes, 220 screen & a blank t-shirt. WOW. I cant wait to get mine in the mail.

You can order your free trial of the Yudu for only $33 plus shipping. It comes with everything you read above and the 30 day free trial. From my experience using it this past weekend I can tell you that you will end up keeping it and not returning it. This is a great machine at a great price.

So, what is the total cost for this machine?

  2. Amy

Stu, the total cost for the Yudu after the trial is $275 after the free trial. Most people think that is crazy and expensive but trust me it is worth it. My neighbor saves $700 on the hats she had to make with this Yudu. Worth every penny so you should at least give it the 30 day trial to see for yourself, if you don’t like it then it is easy to return, no obligation.

I’m concerned with doing 4 color process t-shirts.
Can I do them with four screens? Tell me all.
